Te Awanga Estate 'The Loom' Chardonnay 2021

Te Awanga is a special piece of dirt. Planted 25 years ago by a group of friends in one of Hawke’s Bay’s oldest wine growing areas, they dreamed of making the region’s greatest wines. Not only the physical home of the cellar door by the sea, Te Awanga Estate is a range of single vineyard wines that are rich, mouthfilling and long-lived.

Named after a surfing term, "The Loom" is the best wave of the day, and this is Te Awanga Estate's best expression of a coastal chardonnay you will find!

Sourced from their seaside vineyard at Te Awanga's home block, this wine was fermented wild and left on wild yeast lees for ten months before it was blended ahead of bottling. Winemaker Rod McDonald works hard in the vineyard and winery to create an environment which allows minimal handling and as a result, he has produced a wine that’s got as much flavour and character as possible.

A typical coastal Chardonnay with citrus and stone-fruit aromas combined with a lovely biscotti and spice complexity. On the palate, it’s fleshy and textural with a little minerality and tightness which promises a long life and gathering complexity.
