HELLES STYLE FRESH LIGHT LAGER! SINCE 1894
Spaten is one of Munich's six major beer brands. Its beer brewing history dates back to 1397 when a brewer named Hans Welser set up a small brewery in central Munich, originally named Welser Prew.
Spaten Brewery is regarded as the most significant German brewery in the development of lager brewing. Having been brewing the world famous lager since 1397, it was not until the early 19th century, under ownership of the Sedlmayrs (arguably Munich’s most prestigious brewery family) that Spaten, meaning spade, came into its own. Gabriel Sedlmayr (the Elder) purchased the Spaten Brewery in 1807 and quickly turned it into Munich’s leading brewery.
In 1894 Spaten became the first brewery in Munich to produce this style of fresh, light lager. Golden in color, the full rounded body is a superb balance between hops and a malty sweetness. Spaten München Lager from Spaten-Franziskaner-Brau is an Dortmunder - Helles style beer, medium in color, is slightly hoppy and has an ABV of 5.2%.
