500 YEAR OLD DARK ALE RECIPE!
Marston’S Brewery was founded in 1834 at the Horningblow Brewery in Burton-on-Trent, England as the brainchild of brewer John Marston.
In 1898, following a merger with John Thompson and Son Ltd, the brewing moved across town to the Albion Brewery where it became famous for its use of the Burton Union system, a traditional fermenting apparatus based on fermentation in oak barrels.
The brewery was on-sold to Wolverhampton & Dudley Breweries in 1999, and is now Britain’s largest independent brewing group. The beers are famed for their full, rich flavours and enjoyed all over the world.
Owd Rodger is a hallmark example of the strong ales that propelled Burton to brewing fame. This dark beer is brewed to a recipe believed to be over 500 years old, and is Marston’s award winning 7.4% strong ale. Brewed using malted barley, whole leaf English aroma hops and well water, Owd Rodger offers an explosion of rich fruit flavours with a dry bitter-sweet finish.
